Sucumbíos Province

It is a province of north-eastern Ecuador. It is one of the main provinces that provide the State with the oil it needs for exports. It is characterized by its beautiful Amazonian landscapes, including the Aguarico River.

This province is home to one of the most impressive attractions in the Amazon: the Cuyabeno unundadle forest. In that place the landscape changes with the rainy season. In this province is the Reventador volcano (3562m). Its main rivers come from the eastern Andean mountain range. Among them are San Miguel, Putumayo, Cuyabeno, Cofanes, Aguarico and Güepí.

The hydrographic system of Sucumbíos is formed by the Aguarico river that crosses the province from Northwest to Southwest, its tributaries are the Cofanes, Chingual and Eno rivers; additionally, the El Dorado, Dué, Cáscales, Aguas Negra-Cuyabeno and Shushufindi rivers flow; forming the border with Colombia is the San Miguel river with its tributaries the Bermeja, Charapa, Singué and Opuno, it also receives the waters of the Aguas Blancas and Conejo rivers; Another limit with Colombia is Putumayo, whose tributary is the Piñuna River; finally and of equal importance are the Coca and Napo rivers that integrate the southern boundary with the Province of Napo.

To the northwest of the province is the Cordillera Oriental de los Andes, to the north is the hill El Mirador.
