Buena Fe - Los Ríos - Ecuador

Canton Buena Fe, located in the Province of Los Ríos. The city, with more than 30,000 inhabitants and several years of political independence, maintains an agro-industrial force that makes it an important center for tourist and economic development in Ecuador. The inhabitants are engaged in the cultivation of bananas, cocoa, coffee, rice, corn, soybeans, African palm, palm hearts and tropical fruits and to the raising of cattle, pigs and poultry. Buena Fe makes one of the best horseback rides in the country, has beautiful spas and a unique flora and fauna, factors that make it worth visiting.

Most producers sell the product to companies that are exported. The Wong Group company are direct producers and exporters of banana, pineapple, African palm. Cocoa and passion fruit are cultivated by several smaller producers, who in turn sell it to collection centers of the canton and these to the exporters. Oranges, mandarins, mangoes, grapefruit, lemon, achotillo, badea, among others; which are produced by several farmers in the area and sold in the cantonal and national.

Typical Gastronomy in Buena Fé

The typical dishes that have been maintained through time are based on the recipes of our grandmothers, that smell of firewood, spices and especially the love that is put to prepare them make the dishes have an exquisite flavor.

Fish buns: The fish bun is basically a portion of river fish, especially bocachico, covered with a mass of green banana of soft texture and ocher color, all seasoned with salty taste and steamed in a wrap made with a leaf of banana or bijao. It is served alone or accompanied by white rice and a lemon tapa. It is common to be served in ceramic, glass, porcelain, metal or plastic bowls.

Ayampaco, when the dough wrapped in the green leaf is not cooked in tamalera, if not roasted in a charcoal fire.

Tamal, in case the filling is not river fish, if not cooked pieces of pork and sausage (minced pork with seasonings and spices, stuffed in pig tripaje and smoked over charcoal), pork is used in pieces and longaniza instead of river fish.

The basic ingredients are green plantain, ground peanuts, garlic, onion, pepper, salt, dressings, freshwater fish: old, bocachico, guanchiche.
